You can barely see it, but there’s string at the top of that sculpture. These are the works of Anthony Gormley, who has been sculpting for decades. Many of his pieces are figural representations but those are not the ones I like best, I like these geometric ones far better.
I’m not sure if they’re bent or soldered or what. I just really like that they almost look like hives as they get denser in the middles.
How cool is that? You can just imagine the chaos and clutter in the inside of those pieces. Suspended I imagine you can get a better sense of it in person, walking around them.
Love.
Anthony’s site is awesome – it allows you to travel back in time through his works. It doesn’t give you much material information but it’s still visually arresting to see how much he has created over the years. I like this as it almost looks like the bubbles of a lava lamp forming foreign bodies.
You could see a flame coming out of the middle of that…or is that just me.
Made in 1978, this might be my favorite piece, “Flat Tree” – it’s slices of a tree, laid out together…I can’t get a sense of scale but it’s beautiful and I love the colors of the wood.
